NATURE OF THE WORK

The goal of the course of study is to prepare trainees:

SUBJECTS TAUGHT
The Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilating and Sheet Metal Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs refrigeration equipment; overhauls and repairs pumps, compressors, piping and other equipment; inspects and examines the various parts which comprise the system to detect leaks; uses tool equipment and instrucments for testing and servicing electrical systems; learns to read schematics and trouble shoot all of the above. Additionally, he/she fabrictes, installs and repairs light commercial and residential duct systems.
JOB POSSIBILITIES
Job opportunities exist in residential air conditioning and refrigeration. Other opportunities include hospitals, churches, schools, restaurants, and the auto industry. A student who learns these various skills will have a very bright future for many years.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS
Students may enroll as juniors or seniors. The student must possess the ability and patience required to locate and repair refrigeration faults. He/she should have the personality and disposition to work satisfactorily with the general public. The student should be able to work independently as well as in groups and understand basic math. Students will be learning to improve the quality and conditioning of food, air and water. The field in HVACR and sheet metal according to the latest statistics will have a job growth of 45% through the year 2020. This data comes from Northwestern College.
